Riad Arrahma

Riad Arrahma is a traditional Moroccan guest house set right inside the historic medina of Marrakech, a UNESCO-listed old town of narrow derbs, artisan workshops and hidden courtyards. Its strong suit is the location, scored 8.3 by guests: Ben Youssef Madrasa and the Marrakech Museum are only a few minutes on foot, while the legendary Djemaa El Fna square lies less than a kilometre away.

It suits couples, friends and families who want to stay in the heart of the old city and reach the souks and monuments on foot. Rooms are air-conditioned and tiled in the local style, each with a private bathroom, a private entrance and a wardrobe; several open onto a patio. Options range from a compact double to a spacious suite with a separate living room, so the riad works for both short city breaks and longer stays.

An in-house restaurant serves Moroccan cuisine with halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options, and there is an indoor swimming pool and a sun terrace for downtime between visits. Service is a highlight, with a 24-hour front desk, private check-in, a concierge, a tour desk and an airport shuttle. Please note that the property has no on-site parking and pets are not allowed.

Inside the Marrakech medina, steps from Ben Youssef Madrasa and a short walk from Djemaa El Fna.

The rooms at the riad

Riad Arrahma offers four room types, from an easy double to a generous suite, all air-conditioned and finished with the tiled floors typical of a Marrakech riad. Every room comes with a private bathroom, a private entrance and a wardrobe, and many open onto a patio for a quiet corner away from the medina bustle.

The main differences come down to size, layout and bedding. The Double or Twin Room is the most flexible for small groups, the Deluxe and Double rooms are neat choices for two, and the Deluxe Suite adds a separate living room with a sofa bed. Whichever you choose, expect a calm, authentically Moroccan space to return to after a day in the souks.

Location and what to see

Riad Arrahma sits deep in the historic medina of Marrakech, the walled old city that forms the heart of the "Red City" and is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The riad is tucked along a quiet derb near Rue Assouel, within a short walk of some of the medina's best-known monuments and only about a kilometre from Djemaa El Fna, the famous main square. This is a neighbourhood best explored on foot: the lanes are narrow and largely car-free, so plan to leave the car behind and wander.

Getting here is straightforward. Marrakech-Menara Airport is roughly 8 km away, around a 10 to 15-minute drive, and the property can arrange an airport shuttle. The Marrakech train station, with connections to Casablanca and Rabat, is about 3.5 km from the riad. Because the entrance lies inside the pedestrian medina, it is worth asking the riad for arrival directions or a meeting point, especially after dark when the souks are busy.

Within a few minutes on foot you reach Ben Youssef Madrasa, a beautifully restored 14th-century Islamic college, along with the Marrakech Museum, the Boucharouite Museum and the peaceful Le Jardin Secret. A slightly longer stroll leads to Djemaa El Fna, which comes alive in the evening with food stalls, musicians and storytellers, and to the Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace and the Saadian Tombs. The best times to visit are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is warm but comfortable; midsummer can be very hot, so an early start and the riad's indoor pool are welcome.
